El Dorado Promise Celebrates Success of 10th Anniversary

On January 22, 2007, Murphy Oil Corporation announced the El Dorado Promise – a fifty-million-dollar scholarship program that enables all El Dorado High School graduates, who have been enrolled since at least the ninth grade, to have their tuition and mandatory fees paid at any regionally accredited university, public or private, in the United States. The El Dorado Promise is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. Since its inception, the El Dorado Promise has provided funding to 2,025 Promise Scholars, who attended or are currently attending 129 different colleges and universities in 29 states. Eight years ago on January 22, 2007, residents of El Dorado, Arkansas learned that a unique initiative called the El Dorado Promise would allow graduates of El Dorado Public Schools the opportunity to earn college degrees tuition-free as a result of a $50 million commitment by Murphy Oil Corporation to El Dorado’s greatest resource – its children. El Dorado Promise Expands Student Eligibility

El Dorado Promise, Inc. announced its intention to broaden student eligibility for the El Dorado Promise Scholarship program by removing the requirement for El Dorado Public School students to reside in the district in order to receive the scholarship.  

Effective beginning with the May 2013 El Dorado High School graduating class, El Dorado Public School (EPS) students are no longer required to reside in the El Dorado School District in order to be eligible for the El Dorado Promise scholarship. Six years after the El Dorado Promise scholarship program was introduced to the students of the El Dorado, Arkansas School District, the program’s impact on student success continues to impress.  According the latest El Dorado Promise report released today, an independent study conducted by the Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas (UA-OEP) found that El Dorado Jr. High students’ test scores were higher than those of similar students in other south Arkansas school districts.

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor to Speak at Academic Signing Day 2011

U.S. Senator Mark Pryor will be the keynote speaker for Academic Signing Day, which will feature recipients of the El Dorado Promise scholarship program. 

The fifth annual Academic Signing Day will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 28 inthe El Dorado High School gymnasium. The event will celebrate more than 260 graduating seniors who will be receiving El Dorado Promise scholarships, as well as others. 

The Promise, announced in January of 2007, is a $50 million scholarship programfunded entirely by Murphy Oil Corp.

El Dorado Promise Expands Flexibility of Scholarship

Murphy Oil Corporation announced today that it is expanding the El Dorado Promise Scholarship program to allow more flexibility for students and families in El Dorado looking for ways to afford a higher education.  

Established in January 2007 and funded by Murphy Oil Corporation, the El Dorado Promise is a scholarship program covering tuition and mandatory fees that can be used at any accredited two- or four-year, public or private educational institution in the US. The maximum amount payable is up to the highest resident tuition at an Arkansas public university.

El Dorado celebrates second anniversary of Promise scholarship program

The meaning of the word “promise” has been redefined for students in El Dorado since an incredible scholarship program was announced in the gymnasium of the El Dorado High School two years ago this week, according to Cindy Langston, marketing director for the El Dorado Promise and El Dorado Forward. 

When asked what a “promise” means, El Dorado kindergartners have said that it means they get to go to college for free. Because of the El Dorado Promise, students enrolled in the El Dorado School District now have hope that college is an option.
