Celebration of the One Year Anniversary of the El Dorado Promise

All events are free and open to the public


Monday, January 14th

12:00 pm - Murphy Oil Corporation Community Appreciation Reception
The community is cordially invited to attend a reception in appreciation of El Dorado's response to the Promise. This will include the presentation of a Community Report Card, with remarks by Murphy CEO Claiborne Deming, and El Dorado Mayor Mike Dumas. Light lunch will be served. No reservations required.

Monday, January 21st

12:00 pm - Self Culture Club presents "El Dorado Then and Now: The Promise of a Brighter Future"
Raised during the civil rights movement and integration of El Dorado schools, Wayne Kemp will share his experiences leading to successful military and civilian aviation careers. Come and learn how times have changed and how El Dorado's future is brighter than ever. Bring a sack lunch and enjoy! Water and soft drinks will be provided.

1:00 pm - Promise Anniversary Assembly
Join Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe, Arkansas Department of Education Commissioner Dr. Ken James, and other special guests as we highlight the accomplishments of the past year!

12:00 pm - South Arkansas Arts Center presents "Education and the Arts"
Did you know that the arts provide critical links for students to develop crucial thinking skills and motivations they need to achieve at higher levels? Arkansas Arts in Education Director, Cynthia Haas, will discuss this important subject and how El Dorado's SAAC partners with the AR Arts Council to ensure that our children have the best opportunities in arts education. 5:30 pm - Southark Seminar: "How to Get Your Child into College"
Presented by Dean Inman, Veronda Tatum, and Cathy Harrell, this valuable seminar will highlight steps parents and students can take each year from the eighth grade through the 1st year of college to ensure successful college acceptance and completion.
